Shalom Baby is a program of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey’s Synagogue Leadership Initiative to welcome you and your newborn or newly adopted child into our community. It’s a wonderful way for you to meet other Jewish families, make friends, and find support during this special time in your life.
Make new friends while having fun with your child! Shalom Baby holds playgroups for children from newborn to age 3 and their parents. These fun and friendly gatherings feature songs, stories, crafts, and playtime. Each playgroup has a theme related to holidays, Jewish values, topics on parenting as well as early childhood education. Playgroups are free and open to all – we look forward to meeting you!
Shalom Baby offers many different activities for the family. Connect with us and stay up-to-date on everything Shalom Baby.
Are you expecting or know someone who is? Have you just adopted a new baby or toddler? Our Shalom Baby welcome bag is filled with Jewish-themed gifts, resources and special offers and discounts. We would love to provide you with one of these gift bags compliments of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey and many of our local Jewish community agencies, schools and synagogues.
Whether it's your firstborn or your fifth or you're welcoming a newly adopted baby into your family, Shalom Baby is ready, welcome bag in hand, to deliver to you!
Shalom Baby develops future Jewish leaders like Ali, a first-time mother with little involvement in Judaism, who brought her daughter to a playgroup at the Fair Lawn Jewish Center. She quickly became an avid member of her community as she became more familiar with her surroundings and the Bergen YJCC through her contacts at Shalom Baby. Ali is now an active leader and volunteers with Federation delivering Shalom Baby gift bags to families with newborns.
At a Purim themed playgroup one mother mentioned that she never knew the story of Esther. She had moved here from Russia years ago, and had never had any Jewish education. Seeing her interest, another mother invited the mom and her family to join them at their synagogue to hear a Megillah reading and to celebrate together. She was blown away and started to cry tears of joy at the warm and welcoming Jewish community.
Shalom Baby's Early Childhood Education Fair has been a big success assisting families searching for the right day care or after-school programs for their children. Parents like Maytal Perl spoke with several local representatives at the fair and chose to enroll their child at Yavneh Academey. More than half the families attending were able to find the perfect program for their children.
