One Book, One Community’s first five years have brought our community together in lively and powerful ways. With the 2016 title, A BACKPACK, A BEAR, AND 8 CRATES OF VODKA, by Lev Golinkin behind us,* we move on to the 2017 selected title, LET THERE BE WATER, by Seth M. Siegel.
This compelling book brings with it a wake-up call for our community. At the same time it connects Jewish tradition with today’s world – and tomorrow’s.
We’re very excited about the 2017 selected title, LET THERE BE WATER, by Seth M. Siegel. It brings with it a wake-up call for our community. At the same time it connects Jewish tradition with today’s world – and tomorrow’s.
Why water? Because these days, it dominates local and global news: droughts in Southern California; contaminated water in Flint, Michigan and Newark and in school water fountains; Bakken Oil trains passing over the Oradell reservoir. Water impacts every single one of us. LET THERE BE WATER tells how Israel has solved - and continues to solve - the worst of existing water problems, and those coming on the horizon. It’s about how little Israel has successfully addressed a huge global issue, and how we can all take part in the effort to save our planet.
*Almost 500 people came out to hear Lev speak about his family’s experiences and the writing of, A BACKPACK, A BEAR, AND 8 CRATES OF VODKA, at Temple Beth Or in Washington Township. Check out the photo gallery for the 2016 event!
Seth M. Siegel is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. His essays on water and other policy issues have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times and other leading publications here and around the world. In the words of Michael Bloomberg: "If you are worried about global water shortages - and you should be - read this book…. LET THERE BE WATER is essential reading...”
You’ll be hearing more about Seth Siegel and LET THERE BE WATER in the weeks and months to come. Stay tuned!
