One Book, One Community 2011 Culminating Event

SLI's One Book, One Community culminating event, held March 29 at Temple Emeth in Teaneck, was the finale of a year-long endeavor to unite Jews living in our northern New Jersey catchment area over a common area of interest.  More than 430 people attended the program with Ariel and Yona Sabar, author and subject of "My Father's Paradise", who spoke about the Jews of Kurdistan and the importance of all Jews to hold onto their cultural inheritances.

"We needed many hands along the way to make this program possible.  Each of the participating synagogues, JCC, and the Jewish Home Assisted Living had volunteers who bought into our vision of the program and its possibilities.  They worked hard to bring programming around themes that emanated from the book to their communities; and they brought those people to last night’s event," said Lisa Harris Glass, director of the Synagogue Leadership Initiative.
