ISRAEL TEACHABLE MOMENTS
SUMMER SEMINAR 2012

The Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey’s Partnership2Gether’s Israel Teachable Moments Summer Seminar in conjunction with the Jewish Agency for Israel gathers 10 teachers from NNJ and 10 teachers from Nahariya for an intensive curriculum building seminar in Israel. This 8 day seminar and intensive tour of Israel fosters the relationship between northern New Jersey and Nahariya educators. Important goals of this seminar are to build significant interpersonal relationships between the seminar participants in NNJ and Nahariya and to incorporate lessons on Israel and Jewish identity into existing curricula at regular intervals throughout the school year. The teachers participating in this seminar also initiated a number of twinning projects that will be ongoing between their classes throughout the school year. This seminar received the Jewish Agency’s Award of Excellence last year at the annual International Partnership2Gether conference in Tel Aviv.

Teachers in attendance came from both day schools and congregational schools in northern New Jersey and Nahariya teachers from religious and secular schools, elementary and high schools.

Phyllis Miller, Partnership2Gether NNJ Education Task Force Coordinator and Mercedes Hadad, Partnership2Gether Nahariya Education Task Force Coordinator led the group of educators.

Israel Teachable Moments

An Intensive week long professional development seminar in which 10 educators from NNJ travel to Israel to tour and collaborate with 10 educators from Nahariya. Goals of this program are three-fold:

  • Provide teachers with material that will enhance their Israel education and Jewish identity curricula;
  • Foster meaningful relationships between educators in our two communities;
  • Encourage the initiation of “twinning projects,” (i.e., educational collaborations) between NNJ and Nahariya classrooms.
